The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our day-to-day, but our commitment to our customers and communities remains unchanged. We understand the impact of COVID-19 and are taking steps to support and protect our customers during these challenging and uncertain times.
While much has changed in our world, one thing will always remain the same - serving our customers when they need it most.

Online for free: Make an immediate payment or schedule a payment from your checking account. It’s free!
Online or by phone: Pay using a debit or credit card as a One Time Payment or call 833-281-1507.
In person: Visit any authorized payment center to pay your bill.

The North Carolina Department of Social Services offers several ways to assist customers with their energy bills. Contact your local Department of Social Services to apply and for additional information.
EnergyShare is our energy assistance program of last resort and is available to anyone who faces financial hardship, regardless of income.
This free service can refer you to additional available utility assistance programs in your locality, from non-profits to houses of faith.
NC DSS' programs are designed to help North Carolina's most vulnerable citizens find solutions to life's many challenges.
The Department administers a variety of programs, including Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program called Work First (WF), Food and Nutrition Services (Food Stamps), Medicaid, child and adult services, disability services, and more.
Families who are experiencing a financial emergency may be eligible for financial help to pay for housing and utilities.
Families that meet the following criteria may be eligible:
Work First applicants are required to register for the First Stop Employment Assistance Program with the Employment Security Commission. Failure to register results in the family's ineligibility for Work First Family Assistance.

The U.S. Department of Treasury's ARP is providing critical assistance to small businesses by facilitating the deployment of capital and support.
These loans provide economic relief to small businesses and nonprofit organizations that are currently experiencing a temporary loss of revenue. Three types of EIDL loans are offered:
The SBA will pay the principal and interest of current 7(a) loans for a period of six months. The SBA will also pay the principal and interest of new 7(a) loans issued prior to September 27, 2020.

Assistance is available to help with rent and mortgages.
Federal funding is available for rent and utility assistance to low-income renters that are experiencing financial hardship due to the impact of COVID-19. The Housing Opportunities and Prevention of Evictions Program (HOPE) is managed by the NC Office of Recovery and Resiliency.
Update (Aug 1): The monthly rent award limit increased by 30%, the utility award limit increased by 100%
The federal eviction moratorium expired July 31, 2021.
Through the American Rescue Plan, North Carolina was allocated $273 million from the Homeowner Assistance fund. The program is to prevent mortgage delinquencies, defaults, displacements and foreclosures for homeowners experiencing financial difficulties due to COVID-19.
LIHWAP provides assistance to low-income households, particularly those with the lowest incomes, that pay a high proportion of household income for drinking water and wastewater services.
Food programs can provide emergency help during the COVID-19 pandemic. It may be easier for you and your family to receive food stamps and/or take part in meal programs. Anyone may be eligible, from pregnant women, families, seniors, students, and people living with disabilities.
Food and Nutrition Services is a program providing low-income families the food they need for a nutritionally adequate diet. Benefits are issued via Electronic Benefit Transfer cards (EBT cards).
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the government extended the 15% SNAP benefit increase through September 30, 2021.

Three ways to apply for Food and Nutrition Services
WIC provides access to healthy food, breastfeeding support and encouragement for moms-to-be, new moms and families with young children up to age five.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the government boosted WIC benefits.
Visit the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services for specific eligibility requirements.
Contact your local WIC agency that serves the residents of the county in which you live to apply.
This program provides kids and teens in low-income areas free meals when school is out.
P-EBT provides money for North Carolina families whose school-aged children are eligible to receive free or reduced meals at school, but have not been able to access those meals because school is closed or they’re attending remote classes.
Visit the NCDHHS for full eligibility requirements.
Participating schools will communicate directly to eligible households. Eligible households do not have to apply for P-EBT benefits.
Many local organizations are providing food to assist customers. If you need immediate help finding local food resources such as meal sites and food banks, The USDA National Hunger Hotline may be able to help.
